POOL & SPA PERMITTING - CAMBRIDGE
City Requirements for fences, decks, pools & hot tubs
Fences and Decks
Although there is no permit required to build a fence on your property,
there are regulations on height, location, and types permitted by the
City of Cambridge. This is dependant on the type of property you have,
particularly if it is a corner lot. Contact the Cambridge Building and
Enforcement Services before you start building.
For decks that are more than two feet above the final
grade or larger than 107 square feet in size, you will need to apply for
a permit. If you have a residential property, you must keep you deck at
least one metre from the property line on both sides and five metres from
the back. If you are building this deck in conjunction with a pool or
hot tub, you will still need to have it approved separately which will
cost approximately $59.00.
Hot Tubs
To install a hot tub on your property you need to ensure that you either
have a locking hardcover or a non-climbable fence that is at least 5 feet
in height. Cambridge bylaw requires that you obtain a permit (cost $100.00)
to have a hot tub on your property. Bring a site plan detailing location
and distance from property line as well as a description of the tub and
fencing to Building and Enforcement Services. Hot tubs must be at least
1 metre from your property line.
Pools and Pool Fencing
Whether you are getting an above ground pool or an inground pool, you
will need to obtain a permit. An inground pool permit will cost you $175.00;
an above ground permit will cost $125.00. Bring a copy of your survey
including the dimensions and shape of the pool, where the pool will be
placed and it’s distance from other structures and property lines.
You should also include a diagram of the type of fencing you will be using.
You can reach the City of Cambridge Building and
Enforcement Services at 519-740-4613 with any questions.
